About the Chamber

The Isle of Wight · Smithfield · Windsor Chamber of Commerce is voluntary organization of business and professional men and women who have joined together for the purpose of promoting the civic, commercial and industrial progress of our community. The Chamber has a major impact on the economic well being of our community.

There are two primary functions of our Chamber of Commerce:

  • to act as a unified voice for businesses and professionals and translate into action the group of thinking of the membership; and
  • as a community organization, to render specific services to the members and to the general public.

Objectives of the Chamber

  • To coordinate the efforts of commerce, industry and the professions in maintaining and strengthening a sound and healthy business climate in Isle of Wight County.
  • To sponsor an aggressive strategic plan and stimulate activities that will provide for full development of our human and economic resources.
  • To provide creative business leadership and effective coordination of all interested parties in solving community problems and in initiating constructive community action.

How It Operates

Board of Directors:

The Board of Directors is the policy-making body of the Chamber of Commerce. Its members represent the business and professional leadership of the community. The Board consists of 15 members. The President presides over monthly meetings of the Board.

 

Executive Committee:

The Executive Committee consists of the President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Executive Director. It exercises the powers of the Board between those times when board meetings are held.

Committees:

A committee system is the most effective means of harnessing energies and abilities of volunteer workers. Committees are responsible to the Board of Directors.
